Do you want to make your home more environmentally friendly? Many companies and manufacturers are offering new innovative products and ideas on how to save our environment.
Here are some ways to “Go Green” in your own home……
1) Need new flooring? Choose a biodegradable carpet made from natural materials like wool, or recycled carpet, use sustainable wood products such as bamboo, cork or reclaimed hardwood floors.
2) Looking for tile? Design with tiles made from recycled glass or other natural materials, and choose products that are made in the USA reducing fuel costs.
3) Design with cabinets that are made formaldehyde free and that recycle their waste into other materials such as wood pellets.
4) Counter tops made of quartz, recycled glass or that have low VOC emission ratings.
5) Paint safely. Use paints that have zero VOC’s such as Hallman Lindsay’s Earthscapes eco-friendly wall paint which is made locally in Sun Prairie to save fuel and reduce CO2 emissions. Visit www.hallmanlindsay.com to select your color!
6) Switch your light bulbs to compact fluorescents. Easy to do and you’ll save money since they use up to 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs and last 10 times longer. Go to www.ge.com for more ideas on going green!
7) Recycle!! When you’re remodeling, re-use your used cabinets, counter tops, and fixtures or donate them to the Habitat for Humanity restore. Go to www.restoredane.org for more information.
